AID FOR AIDS walks in 2012 for a world without a trace of HIV

image
AID FOR AIDS International is officially announcing the launch of its AIDS WALK campaign for 2012. After such a successful walk in 2011, our team is joining again the AIDS WALK New York with the announcement of its theme for 2012: “We Walk For A World Without A Trace of HIV.”
This year’s theme not only reflects our hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow, but also our sustaining belief in the power of committed individuals to change their world.

This year’s walk, our first major fundraising event of the year, will take place on Sunday, May 20 but registration with our team starts today by signing up here.
Last year, AID FOR AIDS joined the walk under the banner of “iWalk, iDeliverLife” with more than 100 friends and supporters who walked the 6.2 miles with us, and far surpassing our fundraising goal. We’d love to see even more of you turn out this year to experience an amazing day of inspiration and positive vibrations.

Afai And Trinity Global Deliver Arv Treatment In Dominican Republic

image

NEW YORK – AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) and the London, Ontario-based Trinity Global Support Foundation have partnered to provide a large bulk shipment of life-saving antiretroviral (ARV) medication to the Dominican Republic’s Presidential Council on AIDS (COPRESIDA).
The shipment, which comprises 829,258 doses of ARV medicine, is sufficient to cover the needs of nearly 1,200 individual recipients in the Dominican Republic for one year.
Over its 15-year history, AFAI’s Access To Treatment (ATAP) program has shipped more than $80 million worth of recycled ARV medication to thousands of needy recipients in more than 40 developing countries. The Trinity Global Support Foundation is likewise committed to ensuring access to treatment in the developing world, through its global HIV antiretroviral initiative.
“This is a terrific example of how a partnership of two organizations dedicated to the same goal creates a multiplier effect, enabling them to jointly respond in a larger, faster and more efficient way to a global epidemic,” noted Dr. Jaime Valencia, director of operations of AFAI. “We’ve been working closely with COPRESIDA for many years, but now, in cooperation with Trinity Global, we’re able to make the kind of contribution in the Dominican Republic that will help a tremendous number of people immediately.”

The AID FOR AIDS International’s family would like to take a minute from its daily activities to extend our deepest condolences to our good friend and colleague Rita Banus on the loss of her father this past week. Ms. Banus is a psychologist for AID FOR AIDS’ Children and Teens Center in Panama. She has been instrumental in the development of the Panama Children’s Program, which assists 300 youngsters who are living with HIV.
Rita has helped people through some of the most trying times of their lives, and today we extend our love and support to her and her family during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to her and her family in this time of sorrow.
In our thoughts and prayers,

AID FOR AIDS Panama And Ilvem Working Together To Improve Learning In Children Living With HIV

image
When the AID FOR AIDS Panama team went looking for outside help to provide higher-level teaching assistance to youngsters in its Children’s Program, they requested quotes from several local companies.
One of those firms was ILVEM (a Spanish-language acronym for the Institute of Speed Reading and Memory), which offers learning improvement programs in 24 countries on three continents. Founded in Argentina in the late 1960’s, ILVEM today is one of the most respected firms in its field.

When the request for a price quote reached Jorge Gonzalez, the company’s proprietor in Panama, he wasted no time in responding.  “We will not give a quotation to AID FOR AIDS,” replied Gonzalez. “We will provide you with our services for free, which is the least we can do after all you do for these children.”

And, with that, ILVEM and the Panama Children’s Program, which serves 300 youngsters (3 to 15 years of age) living with HIV,  embarked on a long-term partnership to improve the children’s reading and writing skills and enhance their full learning potential.
