NYIAL collaborates with Latin American consulates to provide immigrants with information & services

As part of its mandate, the NYIAL program at AFA continues to partner and collaborate with foreign consulates in New York City.  The initiative completed a 6-month pilot program in the Mexican consulate, in which peer educators visited the consulate, providing information to recent immigrants regarding their risk of HIV infection.
In addition, in an effort to expand the services and reach of the NYIAL program, staff members have secured the collaboration of the Ecuadorian consulate, as well.  Program staff will visit the consulate once a week, providing information and offering counseling to individuals receiving services at the consulate.
NYIAL will also provide HIV testing referrals to any individual interested in taking an HIV test.
Currently, the initiative is operating in the consulates of the Dominican Republic, Peru, El Salvador, Ecuador, Mexico, and Colombia.
