Through the Department of Advocacy, AID FOR AIDS International is ready to launch Observatorio Sobre Mujer y VIH/SIDA (Observatory for Women Living with HIV/AIDS), a website dedicated to women living with HIV and AIDS, organizations and agencies working with this population, activists, and the like. The initiative will focus on women living with HIV and AIDS in Latin America and the Caribbean, at both the national and regional levels. There are very few places in the world that respect the rights of women, especially as they pertain to sexual health and reproduction.
A woman has the right to safe sexual relations, reproductive and sexual health education, and access to health services and birth control- in other words, the right to control their vulnerability and risk of infection. This website is designed to develop strategies to supervise governments and governmental programs, monitoring commitments made by governments and informing women of the tools available for them to exercise their rights as citizens.
Arming women with the tools to be politically active can generate a movement, influencing public policies, making political processes more transparent, and empowering women across the region.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has just signed an agreement, financing Observatorio Mujer through AFAI’s office in Peru. With this generous help, we are sure the program will become of great importance to this population, as they fight against the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
