Donation to Honduras lets Nat’l AIDS Prog. to continue providing antiretroviral treatment

image
Through a partnership with the Clinton Foundation’s HIV/AIDS Initiative, UTAI is working to reduce the amount of medication that expires while waiting to be distributed.  The newest effort of this global-reaching initiative is a donation of nearly 900 bottles of antiretroviral medication to the National AIDS Program in Honduras.
This donation comes at a time when the Ministry of Health in Honduras is struggling to provide treatment to people living with HIV and AIDS in its country.  Government officials and program representatives report serious shortages of both first and second line medication.
This donation is also of significance, as it is treatment that had been identified as “surplus” medication, which would have otherwise expired in a warehouse, never reaching those in need.  Redistribution of this surplus will allow hundreds of individuals living with HIV and AIDS in Honduras to continue receiving their life-sustaining treatment.
