UTAI has received confirmation that it will receive a donation of generic antiretroviral medication from the Liberty Wellness Initiative in Canada. This new batch of medication, manufactured by Ranbaxy Laboratories, will consist of the daily regimen of medication (a three-in-one compliance kit consisting of 3 antiretroviral medications) for 500 individuals for one year.
This is the second donation of medication received by UTAI from Liberty Wellness. The first donation is currently providing treatment to approximately 2,000 people living the Central American countries of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, and Belize.
Specifically, the medication is being distributed to mobile populations, prisoners, and indigenous populations who are not already receiving treatment, for one reason or another. While the recipients of this new donation have yet to be determined, the program focuses on providing treatment for hard to reach populations.
