“Ruta al Asilo”: legal clinic for newly arrived asylum seekers in New York City
On February 25th, the Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, and the Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Manuel Castro, joined us at our third legal clinic in Queens. Their presence encouraged the asylum seekers to pursue the so-called “American Dream”, with a message of hope to thousands of migrants looking to start a new life in New York City.
Our first legal workshop was held on January 25th at our Manhattan headquarters, creating this innovative initiative to increase the number of asylum applications from newly arrived asylum seekers. The demand and support were so great that we now hold them every two weeks in Long Island City, in partnership with the Skyline Charitable Foundation, Fernando Albán Foundation, FUNDAVENYC, and immigration attorneys Carlos Calzadilla and Giselle Ayala.
In these legal clinics, we offer information on legal procedures, providing detailed and complete information on the asylum process in the United States, answering questions about documentation, support, times and summons.
